    Screening reservoir candidates for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) in Angolan offshore projects.

    The neuro-fuzzy (NF) approach presented in this work is based on five (5) layered feedforward backpropagation algorithm applied for technical screening of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods. Associated reservoir rock-fluid oilfield data from successful EOR projects were used as input and predicted output in the training and validation processes, respectively. The developed model was then tested by using data set from Block B of an Angolan oilfield. The results of the sensitivity analysis between the Mamdani and the Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK) approach incorporated in the algorithm has shown the robustness of the TSK ANFIS (Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System) approach in comparison to the other approach for the prediction of a suitable EOR technique. The simulation test results showed that the model presented in this study can be used for technical selection of suitable EOR techniques. Within the area investigated (Block B, Angola) polymer, hydrocarbon gas, and combustion were identified as the suitable techniques for EOR

    Geomechanical effects of oilfield chemicals on sand failure in reservoir rocks.

    Sand failure may result in the production of formation sand at the same time the formation fluids are being produced. This work examines the effects of some commonly used oilfield chemicals, specifically, biocide, corrosion inhibitor and scale inhibitor, on the geomechanical strength of reservoir rocks such as limestone and sandstone. A combination of rock mechanical testing, grain size distribution analysis and analytical techniques are used to establish and define the effects of these chemicals on grain dissolution and unconstrained compressive strength. The results suggest that some interactions such as chemical reaction (dissolution/precipitation) between the oilfield chemicals and the two different types of reservoir formation rocks and transport of grains occurred following the exposure of the rocks to the oilfield chemicals leading to the weakening of the grain fabrics rocks and consequent reduction in unconfined compressive strength. The implications of the results for the strength reduction and sand production are discussed

Customers also play a central function in organizations, but much less is known about customer emotions. This chapter reviews the growing literature on customer emotions in employee–customer interfaces with a focus on service failure and recovery encounters, where emotions are heightened. It highlights emerging themes and key findings, addresses the measurement, modeling, and management of customer emotions, and identifies future research streams. Attention is given to emotional contagion, relationships between affective and cognitive processes, customer anger, customer rage, and individual differences
